My power went out for a day and a half 2 weeks ago.
The tank got much colder than they like.
None of the fish were very lively or healthy looking (clamped, pale, etc)
About 3 days later, 3 of my fish grew white fungus on their fins. 1 platy and 2 swords.
All of them had it on the side fins they steered with.
The 2 lyretail swords also had it all over their impressive tail fins.
I treated tank with pimafix and melafix. Took out the charcoal. Been doing 2X weekly 20% water changes.
The whole tank has livened up and they are active and colourful again.
The platy's white growths are gone with no existing fin damage.
The male swordtail has no more growths either, but most of the tail is gone.
The female swordtail still has a small amount of white growth, and eaten away fins, but less than the male.
So my actual question is this:
I'm pretty sure it was a fungal based fin rot, and if so how long before their fins regrow?
Will the fins ever regrow or will these fish be forever "amputated"?
Thanks, Heather
