think my lyretail may have fin rot, but not positive
bottom tip of her tail is somewhat different...ragged, if you will
no white fungus or anything similar in the area or anywhere else on her
what is the difference between ragged tailfin and fin rot?
and could this simply be from tankmates nipping at her?
I have a fungus cure in my box of fish stuff, should I use it now or wait?
thanx in advance

From the finrot I've seen in Fish shops ,the fins look like they are falling apart, pieces missing with a white rind left ,white spot dieing areas on the fins that are left. It's hard to describe, but it's easy to spot. Looks like the fins are rotting off.
If the fins are just ragged, she may be getting beat up by tankmates. If the water conditions are right, this can lead to finrot.
My rosey barbs seem to be allways fighting and/or breeding ( sometimes they stop to eat eggs ) this seems to be a way of life for them. fins get torn, scales missing.
I use a teaspoon of salt per five gallons of water change about 1/4 to 1/3 of the water a month. Haven't had any problems. I would use more salt but for the catfish and clown loaches.
If she is getting bullied you can add some cover or shuffel some fish around. You can isolate her and use fungus medication. But prevention is the best cure.
The Lyretail caught my eye . Is this a lyretail killifish A. Australe or some other lyretail.?? You can use a lot more salt with just killies.

thanx guys. have decided to medicate.
if it is fin rot, it is not serious yet, so my Satine has a good chance of getting rid of it quick.
she isn't showing any other general signs of illness (fast breathing, clamped fins, etc.)
I tried taking pictures of her and the fin to post here, but I think either I or the camera stink. :p :/ oh well.
