hi, i think i have fin rot in my tank, ive lost 3 fish now in a week.
i started to notice a little red to the very tip to the tails on the first day, then it became very slightly ragged. then the next day the fish were dead.

is it usual for them to die so quick? when i read about fin rot it usually says that after they have had it a while and its gotten up to their body they will die etc but this is within 2 days of noticing anything :S

if this is fin rot should i treat the whole tank even though they dont appear to have any signs of it yet? as the other guys were fine and only showed signs the day after one fish died then another after that one died.

i had a look at the body of each one to see if there was anything else wrong but they look perfect apart from this very very slight fraying at the edge of the tail.

ive done all my checks nitrate ammonia etc and everything comes back clear at 0.
done water changes ever since i had the tank at about 1/4 per week, and everything looks clean and good.

nothing major has happened to my tank, everyone has been fine for months and then this just started happening last week.

please help! i cant lose another one :(

Sounds like bacterial finrot/septicemia of the fins, treat the whole tank with an anti bacterial and finrot med(like Pimafix) .

thanks, and why would it just have started now?

Have you bought any new fish recently? These things can just happen- deseases are always present in the tank water, usually they reside in safe levels, but when conditions change to suit their requirements their numbers rocket and try to overcome the fish's imune system; things that can trigger this are when the fish is stressed, usually from things like bullying, overcrowding, temperature fluctuations, old age, pregnancy, constipation, physical injury etc etc...
Your tank isn't overstocked, but some of the fish aern't really that suited to it- danios are really too active for a 10gal and really need at least 15-20gals minimum, what genders are your guppys? You could also do with another cory or 2 as they prefer to be in groups of 3-4+ :) . Is the betta in the 10gal as well?

Its 3 guppys that i have lost , the danios and corys seem fine, its the other guppys that seem to be showing the beginning signs again. they were/are all male, and have been lving together for 4 months and then this all happened in a week. hm
a friend of mine bought me 2 guppies for my birthday ( wish she hadnt as i had enough fish) and that was 3 days before the first death. probably to blame then u think?
my betta is in a tank of his own thank god.

Yeah i would say the new arivals are probably to blame then, just treat the fish with some pimafix and they should recover :) - a lot of guppys are quite inbred now days and thus very weak, not the old real hardy guppys people used to get in the past, and they tend to be quite prone to bacterial infections now days, particually if they delta tailed/long tailed ones.
