Hello All,

I need help with our betta. He has had fin rot for months. I was away for the summer and my husband was taking care of Betta and he did not do anything unusual and Betta developed fin rot. Unfortunately it went undiagnosed because when I took photos into the fish store where we bought him, the person we talked with told us there was nothing wrong with him.

When he started getting the "white fuzz" on his tail, I called the store and a different person told us he has fin rot and recommended "Marycyn." I did the treatment and he seemed to be getting better and then it came back. I called the store again and they recommended repeating the treatment. I did and no results. I decided to check with the Petco that is near our house and she recommended "Revive" and also told me that I needed to take the charcoal filter out during the three day treatment.

So at this point we are doing the Revive but I wanted to check with the forum and see what you think.

He lives in a 5 gallon heated/filtered tank with a catfish that my husband picked up at Petco (don't know what kind he is) and two Sterbei cory catfish. Betta seems well overall: he eats and swims well and gets feisty sometimes with the catfish but his tail is like a stub and I am so worried that it will get worse.

We love our betta very much and I will do whatever I need to do to help him.

I tried attaching photos but not sure if it worked.

Thank you in advance!

I'm not an expert here, but I thought I would reply so you know you're not being ignored. I didn't think that fin rot was white and fuzzy. To me it sounds more like a fungus or ich. But again.. I'm not an expert and one should be along in not too long. Good luck!

It's very difficult to say without a clearer picture. If it is white and fuzzy then it may not be fin rot but another type of fungal infection. I would make sure that his water is crystal clear and keep doing regular water changes.

Have you checked your water stats at all....ammonia, nitrates & nitrites?

Also if you look in the emergency section there are stickys with info on different infections and treatments.
