Hi,

I recently had an angel fish die as its fins were shredded to the point it coucld not swim. Strangely, the other angel fish, slightly bigger, is fine.

I think it is the danios but i'm not sure as their is no aggression in the tank during the day. I have listed the tankmates below, if you have had any experience with any of them being aggressive let me know.

1 x common plec
1 x bristlenose plec
2 x Yoyo loach
2 x Kribensis
1 x Angel fish
2 x Rams
2 x platies
1 x Swordtail
2 x cherry barbs
1 x male siamese fighting fish
1 x female siamese fighting fish

It won't be the danios, its not good to keep male and female fighting fish together

Tortea right its not good to keep a female fighter and a male fighter they will be good at the beginning then they will start going crazy so its better if you separate them and about the angel fish i have heard this problem many times just try to keep the angel fish separate because they very delicate fish so it cant be the danios

This is in the wrong cichlid section.

I think it could be one of a few of the fish you listed. Doubt the Danios.

Were it's fins obviously nipped....or could it of gotten fin rot (bacterial disease) ?

What size tank are these in ?

I realised it was the wrong cichlid section after I posted, but by then it was too late...

The tank is a 150 litre corner unit. I had read on the net that male and female fighters can be quarrlesome, but I was talked round at the local fish shop. They have got on well with the male building a bubble nest before I destroyed it when changing the water, I didn't notice it at first.

It is a long established tank, with very little aggression amongst the fish. The angels are the only recent additions. I did also think it could be a bacterial infection and treated the water for this, but only with an off the shelf remedy for all generic infections.

I had heard that Danios, if not in a large(ish) shoal can become fin nippers. I originally had 8, but some have died over the years. Also, the remaining angel is starting to get what appear to be bites in its fin.

Thanks for the suggestions I will thoroughly check the water for any infection and keep an eye out for any aggression.

Could be the Kribs too. Just keep an eye out. I have actually had to stand around the corner and peek at my tank trying to find who the culprit is. They don't typically do it while you are watching
