Filtration

i use sponge, floss and porcline bits,, good to hold the benificial bacteria. no carbon personally, i have heard that while it works great at first if its not changed often enough it will piss out all the ammonia and other stuff,, and then you could end up with some very bad water stats overnight
 
just sponge. Carbon needs to be changed regularly, which is expensive and really not necessary. Carbon can be useful for removing meds, but in a betta tank (assuming its small) then a big old water change is easy IMO.
