Hi everyone. I'm just taking my first steps back into the hobby after a long 'dry spell', pardon the pun.

I kept a 30 gal community tank at home in my parents house for years, & now that I've finally settled in my own place I'm setting up that tank that I've long promised myself. :)

About a month ago I bought a 'Fluval 1200 Deep' off ebay. The seller was getting into marines in a big way & gave me loads of gear he no longer wanted. Along with the tank & stand I got a bucket of very fine gravel, a large selection of lava rocks, about 6 pieces of bogwood, a large selection of good quality fake plants, a heater & 2 fluval 4+ internal filters (foam sponges only), all for £70! Bargain!

The cycling's coming along nicely & I'm almost good to go, but I'm unsure if I really need this much filtration, or indeed if I could perhaps place the filters better in the tank?

At the moment I have placed the filters on the back wall of the tank, one at either end with the flow pointed straight ahead towards the front wall & the flow set to almost minimum. Any higher & the flow is churning up the gravel on the front corners.

I'd appreciate any thoughts & advice......

Thanks

Murph

BTW this site has been invaluable in refreshing my memory & teaching me many, many new things.

Great work everyone! :good:

to put it simply you can`t over filter, I have 2 external filters on my 60 gallon tank both of wich could easily filter the tank on there own,
what i would do if i were you would be have one filter on the side of the tank blowing along the back and another in the back corner blowing not directly at the front but diaganolkaly corner to corner
