Hi,
Yesterday i set up a new tank. I was curious if i could add my cycled filter to my new tank to speed up the process? or will this stop the new filter cycling? My old tank is slowly developing a crack and i want to move the fish asap.

Thanks
Matt

Add a cycled filter will slow it up alot as the cycled filter will process all the ammonia leaving the new filter with very little.

You could just move the cycled filter into the new tank and put the fish in right away as the filter will have cycled in the old tank. Make sure the filter can cope with size ofc.

The other way is to take out out 1/3 media from the cycled filter cram it into the new filter and this will boost the new uncycled one and cut done the time.

please take a look in the FAQ and read the fishless cycle info, feel free to post questions after you had a read :good:

Thanks, going to put some of the cycled media in with the new filter! Ive brought a tank thats 3x bigger than my old one. Ill put it in and test it later! thank you!

Ah yes second option then, not sure on your experince but if your doing fishless cycle in the new tank, add the mature media to the new filter up the tank temp to 29c this will incourage the bacteria to breed faster, are you adding ammonia from a bottle?

If the old tank is going to be empty, then put all the mature media into the new filter, then fill it up with new media. You can put all your fish in straight away, as there will be sufficient bacteria to cope with the bioload, and you can then up your stocking gradually, in the normal way.
