in need of a filter for a 126L just any one got any ideas on what i should get would rather have a internal if that will do the job.

And for a external will i need to drill the glass or out :S

i got one of the old fuval 3 with my tank as well as a load of bogwood light and heater for a £10 at the car boot its used and a dont want to use the filter media that came with it and cant find the stuff for that one any were they changed it on the new ones if ya no were ya can get the old stuff any one would help cos that filter looks ok but might just get a new one

Ebay's your best bet if your lfs doesn't have any kicking around.

The Fluval 3 is a great internal filter, I still use mine when the need arises and its about 8 years old.

Someone seems to be selling new unnoficial foam for it on ebay cheaper here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FLUVAL-3-FOAM-FILTER...%3A2|240%3A1318.

Although personally, considering you basically never need to replace it (just rinse it out in old tank water), I would go for the actual fluval stuff for a couple of extra £ from this page: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fluval-3-Underwater-...%3A2|240%3A1318. Because I'm not sure how dense the non-official stuff is, it could clog up faster or not support as much bacteria :).

I use the unofficial filters, they work just fine ,rinse them out and away you go. I never change the coarse sponge ones just the white floss, when it eventually goes out of shape. I trust it in my main tank.

Different filter methinks, I'm referring to the original Fluval 3, which just has one blue sponge :).

Considering the fluval 3 has no floss, I'd go with the proper official sponge in case it clogs up too fast.

In the fluval 4+ and 3+ I use the non-official floss, but even then if for any reason I somehow needed to replace the actual sponge, I'd use the official stuff.

I adapt all my various types of filter to take floss-i like the polished water look!

If you wanted it risk free & the sponge is otherwise fine, you could probably just boil the sponge for 10 minutes or so, I wouldn't think much is going to survive that :)

Where are you located pal? Kettering? Just noticed the name of the sight, is it local to you?

Clean the original filter sponges with water from the tap. Give it a good clean out.

Then put it in a tub of boiling water and leave it there for 10 mins.

It'll be fine.

Fluva 3+ is a very nice filter. 2 sponges and a gap for floss.
