Having lost all fish and the tank we stripped cna I use the sponges to set up a new tank. Or would I need to buy a new set?

I would imagine all the filter media will be dead .

you can keep what is left of the filter bacteria alive by floating it in a mature tank until you are ready to restock, but you will have to go slowly when you do start adding new fish and treat it as a new tank, just adding small fish in groups of 2 or 3 at a time.

I cannot really do that as what I have is an 11 gallon over stocked until my tanks start again.

The filter I have is in a Jewel so not easy to lift out. Also would not dream on putting anything else in the small tank with underground filter.

I need the 30 Gallon up and running for the platties , neons and gouramis.

The eleven I will still get my Betta.

The Rio will have to start from scratch and that was what I was asking.

I am all over the place.

So Immediately I will keep the 30 gallon water changed and cycling and will need toi do the same but the Rio will take longer as I have found before but stays better.

I will not expect fish before the end of November.
CFC's list I think sounds okay but new fish to me so will need to think.

Tetras?? neons with Bristle nose plecs thought they would be eaten

God no, bristlenoses wont even eat livebearer fry.

Well made you laugh at my ignorance.

Corydoras look good .

Would Golden Gouramis do okay with them too

Gold gouramies (and the blue morphs as well) make good community fish provided they are the center piece of the tank, keep them with schools of small fish and they are happy as larry, they start to be a problem if you add fish of a similar size that occupy the same region in the tank, likewise if you want more than one gourami then you either have to have a group of 5 or more or just stick with one otherwise they can get quite aggressive with each other.

I would not get another to me Gouramis are agressive and a huge no no.

I would never kill fish intentionally and this one has survived.

I bought five like you said originally.
took two that were maniacs back that day and gave two to a neighbour who had a huge tank then.

This one was an angel in the corner and was on her yellow card but she has always been boss even with the Balas loaches etc she would flare if they came too near but she did not look as if she was biting.

So she's /he with a spot n his/her tail is queen bee.
