I have a Juwel rekord 70 and am currently using the juwel filter with the venturi. It seems to work ok but it does take up alot of space in the tank, and also the venturi is loud and this keep me up at night, as the tank is in my room. I was thinking of swapping this filter for a fluval. Do you think this is a good idea? And if so, how would i go about changing the, as it's current;y stuck tp the tank using the silicone.

Moving away from the topic slightly.... the heater i have seems to be playing up a bit also. Every few days it does't seem to want to work, and it clicks on and makes this humming noise and clicks off again. The temperature dropped to about 20 yesterday and now its back up to 25 where it always it. Any ideas?

the juwel filters can be removed using a carving knife and being very careful to remove the silicone its attatched on with ive read

ive always previously used fluval filters and the only way they will become quieter is if you submerse them

my juwel is barely noticible if i put the max water in it

Hi lotlot
I have done the filter change in a jewel tank. You might need to take the fish and a lot of the water out to really get at the filter casing, but others might have tried without doing this. I managed to remove it by sliding a knife between the filter casing and the glass but try not to apply preassure against the glass. It came away easily and the odd bits of silicon left just peeled off. The fluval is quieter and it's easier to get increased surface agitation as well by just changing its position in the tank.
You heater sounds like it might be on the way out 25-20 sounds like a bit too much fluctuation and it's a good idea to have a spare for emergencies so I would replace that one and just keep the old one in case it might be better than nothing in an emergency.
