Hi,
Recently set up a 2nd larger tank(Trigon 190) and we have now started to put fish from the small tank into the larger tank.
We have now had a platy that has given birth. It seems as though the babies are either swiming into the filter at the top where the water enters the filter or are geting sucked into it as the vents are much larger than the fish. We did take the lid off the filter and discovered 2 babies resting in there.
The question is, are the babies in danger once swimming into the filter? Seems we can't see very many babies now and from past experience of baby platy's we kow we should be seeing more, even though it is a much bigger tank than we have been used to. I had to fish a baby out last night which was dead. It had been dead for some time but hoping it is not a result of the filter.
I would imagine most filters for this size tank are of a similar set up and size so surely the designers must have considered baby fish??
Also, there is a vent at the bottom of the filter which allows the heatd water to escape into the tank. I'm almost certain some babies would have gone through it. Would also say some smaller varieties of fish could also fit through the vents.
Any answers or advice would be greatly appreciated.
