Soon going to be using rain water in one of my tanks, but never done this before. What's the best way to filter it?

Was thinking of packing a short length of drainpipe with filter wool and just tipping the water through it to catch the debris, with a bag of carbon in there somewhere to grab any contaminants. Or just using an internal filter packed with carbon and leave it running in the bucket over night.

Any tips much appreciated.

TIA

This is what I've done. I only filled the plastic core of the filter, so only about a tablespoon of carbon went in. Is that enough and how long should I run it for? I've got no idea about carbon filtering.

It's been running for a couple of hours now, is that long enough?

I have mine running for about that long when i use it, and i havent had any probs with it. so im guessing yes. let me know how it goes.

Ok, will do.

The water is actually for slowly converting an inhabited existing hard tap water tank over to soft water for breeding, hence the small quantity in the photo.

Cheers for the help.
