I just got my second girly (I'm slowly getting addicted...who am I kidding, I already am!). I was really interested in starting a sorority in a 10 gallon, but in my dorm room I can only have up to 10 gallons and Diego (my boy) is in a 2.5, so the 10 gal is out of the question. So I decided instead that I am going to bring up my 5.5 gallon this weekend and divide it for the 2 girls (And hope I can resist getting more!!). Ive heard two things: some sites said to use one filter and it should clean both sides. Others said to use two small filters, one of each side. I was thinking about the deco art nano filter which I think is reccomended for up to 2 gallons, should I use one of these in each side, or would you guys reccomend just using the one filter I have for the 5.5 originally? (Oh, and I know I don't need a filter really, but since I'm in a dorm it's easier with the filter because it cuts down on 100% water changes!) And the reason I'm moving them from where they are in any case is 1) I have no heating for their tank because they are 2) quite small (1gal and 1.5gal). Thanks!

Why don't you set up a 10-gallon and divide off a section for your boy?

What sort of divider do you have- is it solid? Does it have just a few slits for water to flow through, or lots of openings?

My dorm also only allowed 10 gallons... but no one, including RAs, ever said anything about the fact that I had like 3x 10-gallon tanks, an 18 gallon, 4x 2.5 gallons, and 50 plastic betta boxes. :)
