I'm really torn on what I should get here. I'm setting up a lightly planted 5.5 gallon (21 liter) tank with a halfmoon betta (may possibly have a few small cories as well). I would like to have a small, low-flow filter on it, as I always feel better having one even though some people say you don't need one with a betta. But I don't know what to go with. I've seen the Dueto 50 and Elite Stingray 5, but am wondering if they are any good or if there is something better I should go with. Anyone out there have advice on filtering small betta tanks? Thanks in advance.

I've made a "shield"...basically a piece of plastic in front of the water flow. It works quite well...

You could also try a small sponge filter, such as the ones many use in fry tanks.

I had an elite stingray 5 in my 15L betta tank, it was great. if your betta is stupid dont put the filter too low down, else it could get trapped under the bottom pointy bit on this filter. mine did, and got trapped two other times aswell. it died 2 days after i got it =\
