Filtered Aquariums With Carbon Filters - Why Do You Remove When....

Okay so I have been reading a lot of these treatments/medications, and they all almost say to make sure you remove the carbon from the filter before treating the tank? Does anyone know why?

You remove the carbon before medicating because activated carbon would filter out all the medication from the water.

you should remove the carbon if you have live plants anyway
