Does it look like this http/www.aquahobby.com/products/img/whispermicro.jpg ?
One single cory needs at least 5 gallons of filtered and heated water and a tiger barb needs to be in a group of 5 or 6 in at least a 30 gallon tank because of how active they are. They only fish that can fit in a 2.5g is a betta or 2 african dwarf frogs or a few shrimp. Does it look like this http/www.petco.com/Assets/product_images/4/4679825816B.jpg mine came with one of these only it didn't have the intake part in the front is on the bottom of it.
I think you have the same one as me. In that case, you can submerge it almost all the way, but leave the top out of water a little. You can do it all the way, I think, but mine didn't work as well when I accidently filled the tank up too much.
Edit: I agree with Durbkat, you're going to have to move those fish. 2.5 gallons is really too small for them ,seeing as both are very active fish and should be with their own kind. As for not being able to put any fish in a 2.5..that's not true. You could keep one Betta, if you want.
Well your right about how you can't put it in the 30g because of the angels. Why don't you give it to the fish store you got it from so it can be re sold and you can get store credit and get 1 male betta or 1 female betta.
