FILTER?

how can you tell how many gph your filter is doing if you dont no what kind of filter it is and how long are carbon bags good for what do they do and i heard they only last a while so should i take it out and put only a sponge in there?
its one of those filters that hang on the side of your tank

does anyone know about this cause i would really like to know if my carbon sac thing is doing anything and i am almost positive that the filters to small for my tank so im going to be running two instead of buying one that will fit my tank so any help would be appreciated

carbon will expire over time
depends on quantity and quality of the carbon. Most are usually good about a month though

as for figuring out the gph of your filter, unless you put it in a bucket and see how long it takes to empty the bucket (which would be kind of hard to do) there's no real way of finding out.
