I have a tank of 3*1*1.5 with six chichlids. I had two internal filters earlier. I was told by some one that the water quality of external filter is much better than the internal filter. I got two external filters made. These are glass boxes 1 foot in length by 1/2 foot in breadth and height with holes in the base. water is pushed by a motor and pipe from the tank and falls on a 1.5 cm thick piece of sponge. then filtered water falls through the holes back in the tank. But the water still have suspension.

can I add some other media in the filter boxes along with the sponge? any other suggestions to improve the water filteration.

i would either get a whisper 60 or a fuval 280

The best Filters out there are Canisters by far, but If your looking for the best Hood fiter my opinion is Aquaclear. How you can tell if a filter is good, is if the bubbles go from one side of the tank to the other. Aquaclear does that.
