hi all.
i am upgrading soon and was wondering if i would be able to use a filter reccomended for tanks up to 300l (ecco 2236) in a 200l tank or would i be better off going for the smaller equivelent that goes up to 200l.

cheers
sam

Sketchy,

The rule of thumb is a filter with 5x the power you need. I personally think that is too much from my experience and I usually get a filter that is at least 1/3 or 1/2 times more than I need. I would also suggest looking into the Classic or Pro series as they are so much better than the Ecco.

Good Luck!

Filtration depends on the type and quantity of fish you plan on keeping. Live or artificial plants also are a determining factor when choosing filtration. I second the opinion of getting a Classic or Pro series, the Ecco line is entry level.

Generally overfiltration is fine as long as you are mindful of the increased current. Some fish like a stronger current, others don't.
