Hi Peeps I Bought A So Called "Blue Filter Shrimp" from my lfs and i cant seem to find any information about them. Does anyone have any information about them. I spoke to my lfs and that confirmed to me thats what they are called. :dunno:

i managed to find out its real name. Does anyone have any information on it?

Sci:Atyopsis gabonensis
Common:Cameroon Armoured Shrimp

Is this it ?

Link

I've had one for about 6 months, never see it even though it is about 3 inches long !!

They don't always do well in the aquarium due to the way they feed. i.e. filtering fine particles from water.

I drop algae tablets near to the wood that he lives under. The cories do a good job of stirring it up for him.

We have two! named Panzer & Sherman.
They cost us £12 each.

They keep themselves to themselves, hiding in caves an waving their arms about at the cave entrance.
We keep them in a community tank with cories, plecs, tetras, scissortails, guppies and dwarf gorami.

They're groovy.

Here's Panzer.

PS.. If it is a Cameroon Armoured shrimp, where did you get it cos I'm been after some for ages :p
I got it from a fish shop in north london i think it might be too far for u

Kem,

did you get it from the tropical place on Bethnal Green Road.........

.....I have been in there a couple of times, and the guy (Terry) in there recommended them to me..........

Haven't taken the plunge yet though.........

.....only have the one 3 ft tank.........at the mo......

yer by the description it sounds like a cameroon armoured shrimp i currently have 2 in the tank but there not always blue if they are the dominent male in the tank they may turn bright orange plus whenever i hear ppl talk about them they always say they can never find them i their local fish shop mi local is nearly always has one or two around..

All care for filter shrimps is roughly the same make sure you have a good current/water flow for them and i wouldnt introduce one to my tank unless it had been up and runing for at least 6 months to build up the food and nutrients in water
i would also if you havn't yet provide somwhere for it to shelter when it sheds it shell because thats when they are most vunerable even when housed with peaceful community fish
good luck
