Hi,

I managed to get a filter seed from a forum member. Its not been in my tank and the tank is fully cycled and stocked.

I have a mate who's just going to cycle a new tank but I don't want to give him the seed too soon and lose the bacteria in my sponges.

So how long does it take for the bacteria to colonise the nearby sponges?

Would it be best to get one of my mate's sponges and run that in mine for a week?

Best getting his sponge and let it run in your tank for approx 2 weeks. The good bacteria will die in around 24 hours without being fed by amonia and nitrite.

I'd say 2 weeks is risky. I'd give it 3 or 4 weeks to be safe. :good:
