I just got home and realized that my filter was not running, so I unplugged it and emptied all the water out of it and removed the motor.

I then tried to turn the impeller and found that it was really hard to move.

I then took the impeller out and clean the entire housing of the impeller and the impeller itself.

My question is to all the owners of Aquaclear filters out there is... is the a common thing, for the impeller to get dirty to be immobile or did the impeller just get stuck somehow?

I also did an ammonia reading to see hoe high it was, if at all, and I got an ammonia reading of about .25 ppm.

I only have 5 fish in my 29 gallon, so the filter had to of been off for a while to allow the ammonia to raise that high.

Luckily none of my filter media was dried out, and all my bacteria should still be okay, I hope!

Just thought I would let you guys know and see if anyone else had any similar problems!

Thanks!

Yes I have had a similar thing happen with both of my AC filters. I have settled in to completely disassembling them every 3-4 weeks. I have had power outages where the impeller does not restart and the motor gets VERY warm.

Alright, I guess I will have to start cleaning the entire filter assembly every 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for your response!
