Hi,

I'm buying a complete set up from someone online and he said the filter is a whisper 30-60 rear hang-on.

Does anyone know whether or not this is a good filter for a 40 gallon tank? Or a good filter in general?

Thanks!

Those wisper filters are not very good. Firstly, they don't come with any bio-wheels or other bio-media. They come with replaceable carbon filled inserts. Secondly, the pumps on these tend not to last too long, or even come close to the rated output. And finally, they are cheap, both in quality and in price.

This is IME though, your mileage may vary.

I would spend a little money and buy a better filter like a Aquaclear 70, or a comperable marineland. If you spend a little more you could get a canister type filter.

Definately something to think about.
