Hi all i have had my new filter in the new tank with my old filter running, however i have not had the new filter running continously with the old one, only every now and then for at least a hour a day as the current was too strong for the fry, would i be right in thinking after about 10 days my new filter should have the necesarry bacteria to be the main filter, Although its not ran the whole ten days it has been summeresed in the tank for the whole ten days

Thanks in advance

Sorry Stiffler, but i doubt that is enough. The beneficial bacteria really thrive in thte flowing water because it is so oxygen enriched. Having them submersed in still water, may keep them alive (difficult to say) but i doubt it is enough to establish a full colony in such a short space of time.

I recommend that you should leave the filter running 24/7 to establish the bacteria.

Yeah i think it is going to be the safest option since i got over a 100 fry in this tank i dont want too loose them some only a few days old others around 5 weeks

Thanks for the reply

Put a filter sponge over the intake to prevent fry from being sucked in, a piece of driftwood tied with fishing line to the output will diffuse the flow.
