Filter Pump

I have a Fluval tank and filter with pump.
Which direction should I point the outlet water pipe? Should it go up down or vertical.
I have set it vertical / level at present but would it be better pointing up to create more water surface movement?

Point it out so that way it creates water surface agitation, and it also makes a current so that the water in the tank is going to have a better chance at going through the filter.

Try not to have any "stand-still" water within the tank, you always want a small current in your tank moving the water around.
