I've recentlystarted a new 20 gal with different tetras and this is the first time ive ever had trouble with fish getting stuck in the filter since i breeded livebearers. Anyways the point is, is there a device that you can use to keep them away from the filter? -_-

I thought about another airstone, but would that make all the nasties push away from the filter?

What do you mean by nasties? The tetras?

What species of tetra? How big/old?

You could try another form of filtration.... Undergravel and/or sponge. Just do more frequent water changes to replace the mechanical filtration. :dunno:

Perhaps you can stick a sponge on the intake? This will probably reduce the flow rate a little and you will need to clean it frequently, but at least no fishes are going to be stuck on it... ;)

I assume it is a hang on the back type of filter you are talking about. Most shops around here have sponge pieces made specifically for that purpose. Some are pre-cut to fit over an intake tube, others you have to make an "X"cut and force the tube into the X. Just remember when you are using these that they will be acting in effect as a pre-filter for your filter and will need frequent rinsing out. Hope this has helped.
