I have just finished my fishless cycle on a 5 gallon tank. Got my male betta yesterday he was ok, settled well in his new home. This evening he was flaring and swimming under the spray bar off the filter and getting thrown about. Not sure if he likes it or not, also got his fins stuck on the inflow of the filter. Temporary measure of fitting a adapted plastic bottle over the filter so it will reduce the current and also he can't get near it. The Filter is a classica with a flow rate of 200litres per hour, only problem is that you can't reduce the flow on it, on or off are the only options.

What other filter can a use for this size tank which has a small current for a betta.

The Tank is an arcadia arc 20L

i have my delta male in the same tank with the same filter and hes fine

i position the bar so it sprays towards the back of the tank, and stuffed it with loadsa polishing pad to help with the flow :)

I did have the spray bar positioned at the back of the tank aimed against the back but under the water point upwards. Have you put the the polishing pad in the filter instead of the carbon, because I have replace the carbon with the extra sponge filter.

i have the carbon still in its little casing

under that ive squashed polishing pad in, the sponge that came with it, and added more sponge

dont see why urs is having probs? :/

What kind of polishing pad is it? Also what is the flow like? The flow on my filter from the spray fires out with some force, make me think it maybe a faulty filter if yours works ok.

I have a diffrent filter, but I did the same thing with a plastic bottle. For me it works like a champ. The first filter I used had come with the tank. It bothered Fred so much that when I got up the next morning he was cowering in the corner. I replaced that filter with a penn plax filter with a bottle covering the top of the filter to cut down the current. it worked so well I bought another one for my other betta's tank. Get creative. If there is an intake tube cover it with a nylon stocking, it will keep fins and other fish or fish parts from getting sucked up. Plastic and the like can be used to cut down the flow of water going into the tank. My lfs carries small fittings and valves that go into the air line that can cut down on the amount of air going into the filter.

mine used to fire out at a force, but ramming it with loadsa polishing pad and sponge stems the intake thus making it slower lol
