Seems my filter has stopped working!!! It is a powerhead fillter that came inbuilt with my Aqua-One tank.

I have tried jiggling cords around and everything, hard to tell if its just not switching on or isn't taking up water, there is definatley no water getting to the 'chamber' part at the very top.
My water level is low, i know it has gone down and needs topping up, and is below the 'head' part at the top, could that be it?

No blockage at bottom of tube...OH No i don't want my fish to die :(

long weekend here and shop is closed..

Check the impeller !!!!
That often gets clogged up ;) especially if it's something you tend not to check that often.

yes I know the filter is working with power so I guess it's clogged..

uhhh whats the impeller  I vaguely remember something about it but it's my first tank and I haven't had to clean it out yet..

:S

could it be the water level or is that irrelevent/ Cant see how it would make a difference..

What type of filter do you have ? The impeller is the magnetic propeller thingy that drives the pump so to speak. Take your filter out of the tank and take the entire filter apart. Every bit you can. Wash every bit in some siphoned tank water.
I had exactly the same thing happen to me last week and that was my problem.

Though I somehow had a small piece of plant in my impeller, even though I check it on a weekly basis.

Yep, definatlely clean the whole filter. Wash all the bits apart from the media in fast flowling tap water to get rid of all the gunk, and the media in old tank water.

It's a powerhread '300', it came standard with my Aqua One tank, I'm sure it probably just needs a clean....

hope so anyway!

So can I rinse the rest of it (tube etc) in tap water?...and just the 'noodles' in tank water? What about the spongy part that sits above that (attached to filter not the insert stuff I don't think..)

You can rinse everything that doesn't house bacteria in tap water. I'm not sure about what media your filter has, but anything that traps paricles of dirt houses bacteria. I find tap water good for the normal parts as it is fast flowing. And just in case, by old tank water I mean tank water you've put in a bucket, bot in the actual tank. Because that would defy the point ;)
