right im going to be cleaning my filter media, now what is the best way

i was going to take it out and just agitate it in some fish water taken out of the tank, and that was it

now is there anything else i can do as i dont want to lose My bacteria in the media.....

also where is a good place to get something to clean the pipes as only 3 months in they are filthy.

What you suggest is how I clean my media, that is the right way to clean media.

I have never had to do serious cleaning of the pipes, but some manufacturers do sell pipe cleaners, which are just bristly brushes on a long pole.

I to clean my media the same way as yourself and KK. One thing i always do when performing filter maintnance is to empty the water from the canister, you will be amazed how much debri this removes.
