Morning all

Firstly, I am fairly new to tropical fish and very new to this forum- so hi to everyone.

I am trying to re establish a tropical aquarium (approx 15 gallon) which houses a raphael catfish and 3 small platy. My internal filter pump broke a couple of months ago and was working very inefficiently (and I must confess that the tank had already been in decline following the birth of my daughter, I was slightly distracted and neglected to keep up with my regular water changes). I am now back on track and have replaced my broken flter with a new bigger better external filter but stupidly threw away all the old media  (I know this was bad mistake).

What I would like is some established media if anyone is able to donate (I have viewed the pinned article on filter donations, but am unable to sent a private message for some strange reason - I have checked and it is not disabled in my profile).

If anyone can advise how I can begfin to send private messages and even better, offer me some healthy bacteria, then I would be extremly greatful.

Thanks

Keep posting articles I think you need to be a more established member before you can PM people say 15-20 posts perhaps??

Who do you want to PM I will do it for you and link them to this thread if it helps?

Thanks Mike, very kind of you.

Miss Wiggle and Rabbut are both active in my locality, so either would be great. Appreciate your asistance with this.

Just a quick update mate, neither Rabbut or Miss Wiggle have logged in since I messaged them so they have not read the message yet.

Regards
Mike

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response, been rather busy at work over the last few days...

Last I heard from Miss Wiggle, a few issues lead to her not being able to donate media, but I'd await her posting back to confirm this. I have Bioballs, Sponge, mechanical (smooth) ceramic and floss available. Take your pic, but I would like replacement media of whatever you take. Bioballs are generic and available from pretty much anywhere, likewise Mechanical Ceramics. Floss you can have, but sponge would ideally be for a Tetratec EX1200 if that's what you'd prefer to have :good:

You need 10 posts to be able to PM I believe, so you'd need to do a few more posts before we can arrange a meet off the main boards for mature media donations :good:

Thanks Rabbut

I have been away for the last week, so left my poor wife to do some regular water changes :flowers: , so hence no reply to your offer.

Having returned alst night,, and found my fish alive and tested water, it looks like I am getting there by myself, amonia dropping off, with nitrites and nitrates on the rise. I have now completed a couple of water changes to bring the levels down, but looks like the tank is beginning to cycle :D (still some way to go, but its encouraging to see the filter is maturing), I guess I may as well let things continue as they are.

Thanks again
