well i have an aquaclear 70 hang off my 35g and when i came inot my room i noticed that it wasnt working!

so i took it out cleaned out all the sponges and filter flosse inside and the motor with q-tips and the motor still wont even turn on (of course with plug in)

any other suggestions to fixing it?

i put an airstone in there to help move it around a little

but still!

also its not the output im plugging it into since i tested it :sly:

nope, well atleast i dont hear anything but i didnt try it without it being attached to the filter

so now what? ill try to plug it back in, be right back...nope still not even a sound

Filters work on electromagetic fields. Plug it in and electricity causes a magnetic field which drives the impeller. The impeller is a 'propeller' with a magnet. It may indeed be dead, however, sometimes the impeller comes loose from the magnet and thus slips....no drive. However, you would most likely hear some sort of sound. If you haven't already inspected the impeller, I would do so and see if the magnet spins freely from the shaft. If it does, you may need to just replace the impeller. If it doesn't, and , you've cleaned EVERYTHING...you may need to replace the filter. See if it is still under warranty. SH

This happened to me before. When i turned the filter off to change media, it wouldn't fire up again. All i did was leave it out of the tank overnight, and tried again in the morning. Worked fine for some reason !! Give it a try ...

Some times you need to take the impeller apart and clean the shaft. This happened to me today. A hair or in my filter moss, wraps around under the plastic on the metal shaft and gums up the whole work. Take 2 pairs of plires and pull one of the mag ends off the impeller. Clean well and put back together. Good luck!

without overcomplicating the issue.........have you tested the fuse in the plug. If any charge is getting to the motor you would hear some sort of noise.

alright well i just got back from school and after hw ill get right to it, ALL of it

finally, i got it working

when i got back from school i noticed that the motor was hot but not running

so i cleaned it again and now it works, but it might be leaking, not sure yet
