I installed a 3d background, one which would have been virtually impossible to stop water from flowing behind, so to avoid water stagnating entirely there I've placed the filter intake behind the background. Which also had the positive effect of not seeing the tubing either, having hidden it away.
However is that suitable? I now know some have drilled holes through with a filter mesh but it's way too late for me to consider that now. My only recourse that I can think of is to put a T-section in and have another filter intake in front of the background as well.
What does everyone think?
Cheers.

I presume the background is irremovable. Unfortunately, at some point the water intake or the pipe from it is going to get congested with muck, slime, perhaps even the odd dead fish, so it's not going to go on forever. I think that eventually you are going to have to make an alternative intake but until you do I wouldn't have thought there was a problem so long as water flow is largely unresricted.
