I want to divide a ten gallon tank for two bettas, but I'm concerned that the filter that is in the tank will be too strong. Esp. for the fish that gets put on the side with the filter. I know that bettas really like calm water. The filter is the one that came with the tank. It's an Aqua-Tech 5-15. I was thinking that maybe putting a peice of stocking/pantyhose over the intake or maybe even some foam or something, would slow it down some. But would that ruin the filter?

Im dividing my 10G tank at the moment aswell to house 2 bettas and I was worried about the same thing. I couldnt work out how I was going to make it perfectly even water flow each side. I posted about this on another forum and somebody divided the tank into 3 making the middle section just big enough to hold the filter and the heater so that each side where the betta will be is even and neither 1 will be getting blasted about by the filter.
This is what Im doing, Im ordering 2 tank dividers tomorrow!!! Im so excited :hyper:

I'm about to go out and try to find some kind of plastic canvas someone suggested to me to calm down the filter flow. My poor little Afia is getting pushed around all over the place by the filter and well.. I just can't have that happen any more heh.

I have a divided 10gal for my bettas, and since I'm a bit of a fanatic about filtration (I keep mbuna), I have a filter on each side. So the boys don't get pushed around I put some plastic over the outflow so the water goes off to the sides. Works perfectly and the tank is always crystal clear.

I have one of my tanks divided into 3, with the middle section just for the filter.

Brilliant idea. :good: I just cut up a soda pop bottle and fixed the plastic over the outflow. It seems to have worked well. The bettas haven't arrived yet, but once they get here and I divide the tank, and get it all set up, I'll let you know how they like it :)
