Hi all . Need of some help.

I have a 180 ltr 40 gallon tropical tank with an internal filter . I want to change it to a external filter , a good one . In the near future i am going to upgrade to a 300liter tank , so i might as well get an external filter that can cope with a 300 ltr tank.

Any advice out there????????????????????

Hi phil

eheim or tetratec both have good reputations. depending on what you want to spend really. as they say "you can never over filter"

i would just hold off until you get the 300L. that way you wont have too much filtration and current. and you wont have to buy 2 new filters

You could buy the filter for the 300 litre now... and place it on your 180 litre to supplement hte internal filter, plus this will help it get cycled, so when you get the new 300 your ready to go ...

Thanks for the advice people . Money is not a real object . Name me some models and prices. I would rather spend the cash on something good then keep updating. I have a Jewel 180 with a internal filter which i feel is only just coping . I clean the wool filter (top filter ) twice a week because i feel it needs it. I hover the bottom twice a week . What im after is a filter that can do the lot no problem .

Eheim 2026 if it will be a community tank, 2028 if you plan on stocking with more messy fish such as cichlids & plecs, or overstocking. Check out http://www.eheim.com/pro2.htm I'm running a 2026 on a 65 gallon that is stocked with angels & some corys. You could reduce the flow on the smaller tank to avoid problems with excessive current, and open it up for the larger tank in the future. $180 US for the 2026, $220 US for the 2028, with media.
