Filter Help!

Help please my wife has washed my filter media and filter pipes in normal water as she thought they were not working and passing muck back into the water. So all my good bacteria/media is gone!!! i am very new at this so forgive me if this is dumb but im guessing this is very very bad for the fish.

Can i do anything to help my poor fish all practical tips greatfully received.

Yes she destroyed the benefical bacteria now, though there will be some in the gravel give it a stir up.
Do you have another tank.
And if you have some nutrafin benefical bacteria add that.

Yes probably some of those 'filter quick start' bacteria in a bottle would be a good thing to add. Add a handfull of gravel to your pipes and I guess your pipes will be seeded with bacteria in no time.

How big is your tank and what are you keeping in there?

Get some Seachem Prime to detoxify ammonia and nitrite in case of an emergency as well as the bottled bacteria culture product. Go to your lfs and ask if they have some mature media you could have or buy.

There will be a lot of benifitial bacteria in the gravel and on any orniments you may have so put some gravel in the filter in a filter media bag (about a handful will do).
