looking for a filter for a 10 litre fry tank - preferably not a sponge one though as the aerator would keep me awake...
i actually have 2 options -
1. Use my existing 10 litre acryllic (which i dont trust very much) and is rather dirty and has a crack at the top (but doesnt leak) (would have to get filter and heater)
2. or go to pets at home and pick up a 20quid glass tank (19 litres) with a filter included... (pretty chuffed with that deal TBH as a 19 litre tank on its own would cost 17 quid and the filter on its own costs 7 quid) all i would have to get is a heater...
i would like to know what option you would take - and some equipment suggestions. for a heater i was thinking along the lines of an elite 25 watt (no visible dial but has a temprature control and as long as you use a thermometer then should be OK)
but it is the filter for the smaller tank i would have problems with... if I went for sponge it would have to go in the conservatory - which freezes, otherwise I would be kept awake all night - but if I went for intenal there is a high risk of the fry being sucked in - of course a pair of tights would solve this but the outflow would be too harsh...
and murphys law slaps me round the back of the bonce again - because ther is a filter that will do the job - i cant remember the name but it has an outflow like a HOB and runs at 140L/H - and has a wide intake and outlet- perfect for putting a pair of tights over and alsoit wont give a harsh jet of water - but i think it may well be just a little to big for the tank... but the impeller is actually at the base so it should be able to pump the water up...
so basically - any advice on a method of heating or filtering the tank will do...
got the name of that filter... its a marina I25... and it will just about fit in my smaller tank... but it's designed for tanks up to 25 litres... i'm sure i'll think of a solution though!
