Hi All,

I have asked loads of questions about the Juwel tanks over the last few weeks (Sorry for yet another one)

Will the standard Filter in the Juwel Vision 180 be enough to Keep Cichlids, if so, how many - Does the 1" per gallon rule still apply or are they messy fish?.

Would they also be compatable with Plecs, Khuli's and maybe some Shrimps? - Or will the shrimp turn into live food!?

Cheers,

Craig

I would reccommend adding a good external filter as African tanks tend to be overstocked to reduce aggression problems and the Juwel filter won't be enough to cope with that.

The 1" per gallon rule doesn't apply as fish combinations and stocking levels are too specific, especially with Mbuna. Overstocking is usually neccessary and that requires heavy filtration.

Compatibility with other fish like Plecs depends on what type of African cichlids you want to keep. Asuming you are looking at Mbuna, your best bet would be Bristlenose Plecs as they cope well with the aggression and the high Ph and hard water that is required. Commons and sailfin's can also work but they get too big for your tank. Some of the smaller Synodontis catfish species would also be appropriate.

Kuhli's and shrimps won't survive with Mbuna - apart from a few exceptions such as the catfish species mentioned above, the tank should really be Mbuna species only.
