Hi, i wanna get a 2.5 gallon tank gift for my little sister and if i do she will want to put it in her room. Anyways if i get her the tank is it all right if she turns the filter off for the betta at night but leave it on during the day? Because i read somewhere bettas can survive without filter. Thanks.

neocyber, not a problem...in fact i have one of those 2 gallon tanks for one of my bettas and i never even connect the filter...

They do fine without a filter but you need to make sure you do regular water changes, which is not an issue with a two gallon tank.

Bettas can survive without a filter, it's the beneficial bacteria that need the oxygen to survive. I'd suggest leaving the filter on at night. Turning the filter off at night and then back on in the morning will cause your tank to go into a mini-cycle.

Regular water changes with or without a filter, imo, are a must in a small tank. Small tanks get dirty a lot quicker!
