Hi,

I was wonderng, I have heard people say that they use filter floss but i'm not exactly sure what it is used for. Could someone please tell me what they use it for and how well it has worked out for them?

Thanks

It's an excellent mechanical filtration and its cheap thats why it's so widely used. I have 4 pockets of fiber in my emperor 400 and two bio wheels and works great. It works great for the price. :)

25 years ago (or more) when most filtration was done using air pumps and in-tank box filters, filter floss was a staple in every pet shop and department store. The box filters were filled with a layer of activated carbon (we called it charcoal back then) and topped with filter floss, air from the air pump created a current which caused water to flow through the filter. Good, basic means of filtering your aquarium...I still use 'em today!

I've been using floss for a while now and it keeps the water clear. I change mine every week or so. It takes out the fine particals, but like mwm said I also believe that it clogs up quickly. I don't rely on it as a biological filter.
