Filter Cleaning

Hi all,

I have an internal Eheim sponge filter in my tank which is cycled and has been up and running for
about 6 weeks.

I wondered if I should think about cleaning the filter or whether it is too early?

I'm worried that I might kill off the bacteria in the sponge as it hasn't been established long.

Any help is much appreciated.

Yeah im sure that will be fine but make sure you rinse the sponge in water from the tank

Just check things out and see what it looks like. It all depends on your stocking and tank size. If the pad doesn't look bad or clogged, leave it for a few more weeks. I usually just flush some siphoned tank water through the media baskets when I clean them every couple of months
