Hi

I bought a new filter for my Hex tank yesterday (an Interpet Powerhead 2 .. it was an early christmas present from me to the Fish) and I have put it in. However I was wondering how long I should leave the 2 filters running before I can take out the original one?

Cheers :)

Just put some media from the old filter into the new filter and it will be ok on its own.

If you can fit all your old filter material into the new filter, then you can remove old filter straight away.
If not, I'd say to run them alongside each other for a couple of weeks, then just remove entire old filter - whist monitoring water stats for a good few days afterwards to ensure you don't encounter a mini cycle.

Cheers for that. :)

I think I'll wait the few weeks and then remove the old filter. I'd be afraid I'd do something wrong when changing the media from the old filter to the new one.

no probs :) I've done it both ways in the past - neither with any consequences. But whatever you feel more comfortable with.

why not leave both filters running permantly
this will give you a bit of leaway in your total stocking capacity
IE more fish for you
