how can u stop sand getting into the filter?

internal? external?

If it internal - rais it up from the bottom of the tank - if its an external - chop an inch off the intake

For internal, if its 2" or more above the sand it won't get in there. Is yours sat ON the sand?

what kind of fish do you have? if they kick up sand, then theres not much you can do about it

i really hope your not talkin bout an underground. but i'm guessing, and hoping, thats not what your talking about.

fish can kick it up like they said. if it's one of those that just drops the water it may be kicking up sand it'self also. how high up away from the sand is it?
