Filter And Heater Location?

Is it more so personal preference where you place the filter and heater? Doesn’t really matter if the filter is in the middle of the tank or to one side? Same for the heater?

Do you need a heater gaurd? better to have one or does it really matter?

I have always had my heater on the side of the aquarium as it is more hidden and the temps stay pretty constant througout.. I have never used a heater gaurd either,

i try to position my filter so that it pushes water over the heater so that the heated water circulates the tank. I do not use heater covers as i think they look tacky, personal opinion really.
