Hi all,

Been a while since I have been on but I didn't know where to turn.

I couldn't work out how to attach an air pipe and air stone to my fluval U3 and went and bought an air pump instead.

The airpump is so noisy that my wife is not particulary happy and I must admit, I find it annoying.

Does anyone know how to make the air pump less noisy or even better, explain to me how to attach an air pipe to a Fluval U3. It says in the instructions about a Ventura Valve or something but got to me honest, I am still quite new to having a tank.

Any advice on this would be great. Thanks.

I've got an air pump like yours, I think they're specially made "with added noise" so you don't have to look and check they're still running!! I found that simply putting it on a folded duster cut out a lot of the noise. If the pump touches anything it makes it 10 times worse.
I've never used my U3 to run an airstone and I might be wrong, but basically the "blue stubby tube" at the top of the filter is the outlet. At the top of the "stubby tube" is a smaller capped off outlet. I reckon if you get a male to male adapter type thing, stuff one end in the stubby bit and attach the airline/airstone to the other end, you should have bubbles. Possibly.

Hi there, thanks for that, I will try the folded duster idea.

Any more thoughts on the fluval?

Firstly thanks for starting this, I've always assumed I knew what it done but never actually tried it because i've always had air pumps.
The capped off bit on top of the stubby bit won't actually run an air stone. I just put a bit of tube in it. With the open end of tube out of the water it appears to add air bubbles into the main flow of water from the filter.
Sorry for the duff information, hopefully somebody will answer that part of the question properly and teach us both something, I'm new again to all this as well.
BTW, I'm sure somewhere on the forum somebody wrote a thread on how to build a soundproof box for air pumps. Pretty sure i'm actually right about that!!!!

Not a problem, I tried the idea for the air pump, made it louder!!!

Would be nice just to use the Fluval I must admit

He he, Could put my little one to the test but I expect she would get bored quite quickly!

I have scoured the Web and can't find a thing but I have seen a video on Yout*be and they have the pipe in the top of the Fluval U3.
