Hi all, Ive got my new 5 x 2 x 2 tank up and running, the water was looking rather cloudy, there arent any fish in yet btw. So i bought some Interpet filter aid, but i didnt read the instructions properly, and instead of mixing the solution into a bucket until it disolved i poured it straight into the tank and now the waters awfully murky, Does anyone know if this will clear, or will i need to do water changes to remove the chemical, and will it be harmful to fish when being poured straight in rather than it being disolved instead.

probably just a bacterial bloom, this will go on its own over the next few days/week. I have used the same stuff and I added directly to tak with no worries and it was a fish-in cycle and they were fine.

Agree that it will just be a bacterial bloom and will clear over a few days.

I wouldn't bother with the filter aid, none have been proven to work and tend to be just dead bacteria in the bottle. Bacteria need oxygen and a food source to live, neither of which they are getting when sat in a bottle on the shop shelf. Save your money!

It is very common in a fishless cycle. It is called a bacteria bloom, when the bacteria start to do their thing. Algae is also very common in cycling tanks. But is just temperary, not permanant, so don't worry.

ive already put the filter aid into the tank, Im asking for advice on how to clear that, because stupidly i didnt read the bottle properly and the water is now murky due to the filter aid.

this should still clear in a few days, if there are no fish in there then there is no hurry. Give it 2 days and if there is no change then maybe do a series of water changes, but it should clear on its own. Filter aid is a clumping agent so it should do its job unaided. I think its normal for it to cloud once added.
