hey guys i hav a 300L (75Gal) aquarium with an aquis 1200 (1200L/h) external canister filter and i added a 2200L/h internal filter with a d.i.y waterfall tube output.
the internal filter has become really rattly and noisy, cant hear it when the tele or stereo is on but when the house is quiet its really annoying! ... so i have switched it off!
my question is, will i be ok with just the canister? or am i much better off with a 2nd to give it a hand? or maybe just wait and see and time will tell?
anyone with some experience with this size tank who can gimme some advice it'd be much appreciated.
cheers, jake.

Hi Don't have a 300L have a 180L and 1133L but the principals are the same.
Assuming your 1200 L/H filter once full of media is probably flowing more like 1000 L/H that would give you a 3.33 times per hour turnover.  This is probably on the lower end of what most would recommend but would also depend on what your stock was and how densely the tank was stocked.

Might also be worth taking a look at the internal. Could be an impeller problem of it could just need a good clean out of the impeller housing (cotton buds are good for this).

Dabs of silicone hear and there occasionally sort out rattling lids from hob filters, or wrapping elastic bands around them.

yes, as long as the tank is not over stocked, and you are not overfeeding, and you are taking good care/maintainance of the tank, such as gravel vacuuming, water changes etc etc....then you should be fine with the canister alone

Thanks for the feedback.. Cleaned the internals impeller housing and everything else i could but still no good! It was only $35aus so i just got a new one. An otto 1200l/hr internal which i like coz the canisters on it are clear so u know when they're filthy.. Got 3 attatchments on it so i filled the bottom with course sponge the middle with bio media and the top with fine sponge. Got a couple water cleanser balls in with the bio too.. If u hav not heard of these they are awesome, keep ur tank crystal clear, healthier and less maintanence.
