Hello guys,

Basically I've had a film on the surface of my Betta tank for some time now. I thought it was the plastic plant I bought for my tank but it isn't I know this because I have removed the plastic plant replaced it with some real plants which are thriving.

Can someone help me to remove the film?

the only other thing i thought it could be is the rock-like algae stuck to the filter from a previous owner.

When you say film, do you mean it kinda looks like oil on the water surface? Or literally something you can pick off?

I've had this lately too on my new tank which is cycling. It could be due to a protein slick if you are adding too much food.

Yes, it's most likely to be oils from the fish food. You can remove most of it by drawing a piece of paper along the surface, or by holding a jar or jug just under the surface and letting the top layer of water run in.

It's not usually anything to worry about, but do ensure your filter is creating enough surface movenment and that you're not overfeeding :good:

OK i'm feeding him Hikari Tropical Micro Pellets now how many should i be feeding a day?

and the filter is sat on the floor vertical (fluval 2plus) because he gets blown about other wise

I had a gold fish in a bowl for over 6 years when it died we bought a Betta instead. Same bowl, same fake plant, same glass beads, but with the Betta came the film across the top. It is NOT oily, taking a toothpick will break it apart and it will float around in the water like little pieces of milky white sheets of thin tissue paper. We change water every week and it reappears in about 3 days. So it is either from the Betta fish itself or the food. We feed it Omega One Betta Buffet Pellets.
