Over the last month or so our 30 gallon has grown a thin gelatenous clear film on the top of the water.

Fish:
3 cories
2 dwarf gouramis
3 kuhli loaches
5 amano shrimp
half a dozen cardinal/neon/glowlight tetras

All the water stats are fine across the board, 2wpg, weekly ferts, just started nutrafin CO2 yesterday, 20% water changes once a week.

The film seems to be impeding the movement of the water and when i put in fish flakes they sit on the top of the water and I kinda have to swirl my finger in the water to get the flakes to sink

Any ideas on what this is and how to fix it? i've tried skimming it off the top of the water but it always comes back.

You can either lay a paper towel on top to soak up the film. Or you can create surface agitation to break it up by using an airpump with some kind of airstone to create a curtain of bubbles. This film is harmless to the fish.

Is there a reason why it wasn't initially there and now it's covering the top of the water?

i can't really use an airstone becuae of the CO2

Okay i gotta do a water change tomorrow so i'll give that a try :)
