Ok i would like to do a 30% Change of the water or more over the next week about 2-3 times to remove a bit of tannis and clear up the water. My issue is my cold water (Even in the summer) is ICE cold so much that in a bucket (10 Litres) 1 kettle full will not even make a slight difference to the water. to have the water not ice cold i would need to boil about 3 litres..... this would take AGES to do my changes which is 3 buckets.....

What issues are there using my hot water? I have copper pipes throughout the house. i have a water storage tank and it is a gas boiler

Is there likely to be issues with using this? can i get it tested some how? thanks

nothings wrong with using hot water. it all comes from the same place. i alwase introduce 80ºF in my tanks using half a bucket of cold and half a bucket of HOT.

i run off my tap, but i have hot and cold :shifty: but what i do is use a wide header plant sprayer nozzle, this way i can pause it and run back to make temp adjustments.

i use a hozelock tap adaptor and connect my garden hose to it.

turn hot and cold water on and adjust to roughly the right temp

i use normal cold tap water, it doesnt affect the temp as mutch as you would think, when i do a water change say %20 of 160litres with cold water at 10C it only puts my tank down to 23-24C from 27C.
By using cold water you are also putting more air into your tank, this hasnt affect my fish yet, just think of it as a large gasp of cold rain flowing into a lake or river, the fish will accept it rite? yep :good:

I run off the garden hose but I leave it sitting in my bedroom for several days with dechlor. If it's possible, you could just store the amount you need in a few large containers. If not, the hot tap should be okay but some people think it might be dangerous with the copper from the pipes. Don't know if that's really a problem though.

having a 2 degree+ temp drop that fast can lead to Ich and whitespot. if you do it over and over again every week

I think that's a fish myth. I've never had that problem before and I've kept fish for years and never had a temperature change cause disease.

could be, but everytime the power goes out i put on a battery air pump in my tanks and check all parameters and when the temp drops 5ºF or more then the heaters go up i alwase get ich. every time

I've had power outages for hours at a time and never had ich or disease happen. It was sometimes a pain in the butt to keep the filters moist and with fresh water but never got sick or dead fish.

Maybe you could get a separate heater to heat up the water, and get a bigger water container for the fresh water.
Fishdude, wow i did not know that I was giving my fish ich every time I do a water change, that is amazing, it is just the case with you I suppose.

well i dont aim to know but i take it straight from cold tap in a bucket straight into tank....never had a problem doing this yet...only ever had whitespot in the first about 10 years ago and that was from new fishes.... i do this twice a week in my 150 gallon tank and all are fine with this :good:

My water is about 10 Degrees and if i do a 20L change i drop from about 26 to about 19..... i guess if i try with my hot an if i start seeing ill effects huge water change with cold again.....

If you are adding cold water from a hose and the temp is falling too far too quickly, stop adding the cold water for a while to allow the heater to warm the water back up a bit then recommence adding the cold water, but have it running slower :good:

Next time you do a water change just turn the water on a slower flow to start with and you should have no real issues.

Make sure that your heater is fully submerged throughout the water change though to prevent it breaking :)

I have also used water from the hot tank although you are advised not to because of the copper, whilst it comes into your house through the coldwater pipes, it then sits inside a water heating tank and in many cases these are copper so more time and chance of copper leaching into the water.

Oh yeah, don't forget if you are using a hose to add the water conditioner to the tank
